Last Friday, I (Deanna) was in tears. Not because I was sad or hurt in any way, but because I had shared a moment with my son that touched me deep in my soul. A moment that will last a lifetime…

Like many days we have here in Germany, that day was filled with rain. In the late afternoon, we received a break in the clouds and the sun was actually trying to make an impression on the day. Nate and I headed out into the front yard to take advantage of the fresh air. The temperature was cool, but we welcomed it after being indoors all day. I set Nathan up with his little tee ball set that he received for Christmas. He had no problem hitting every ball and soon wondered off to explore the yard. As he headed toward the driveway, I quickly followed behind. That’s when a beautiful glow from above caught our eyes. It was a big, vibrant rainbow that arched across the sky. It was so beautiful. There was even a fainter one right behind it. I looked at Nathan and pointed to the rainbow as I told him what it was. I will never forget the look in his eyes at that moment. His face filled with such wonder and his sweet little voice uttering…”wainbow”.

After a few minutes of admiring the rainbow, it began to rain again. We took off our muddy shoes and headed back inside. Nathan, like most any two year old, was still repeating “wainbow” and looking for it through our many windows. We found it through our dining room window and my mind immediately turned to paint. I set Nathan up with the supplies he needed and a spot right next to the window. The rest of the story can be told through his creation…
