This past weekend, Brad and I took a trip to New York City. It was a lot of fun and quite easy. I purchased us some Greyhound bus tickets online. If you are ever traveling across states, check out their website for internet deals. I got us roundtrip tickets from Boston to NYC for $38 a piece. It is a great way to travel for many reasons. You don’t have to get aggravated driving, you can sleep, read, or knit on the way, it saves the environment, you don’t have to worry about parking or paying for parking when traveling to big cities, and do I need to mention that it saves you gas money?
So we took the subway into Boston and hopped on the bus. It was about a 4 1/2 hour ride down, which allowed to us sleep. We needed that because we left at 2:30 in the morning. No, that wasn’t why the ticket was so cheap, we actually chose that time. To save on money and to not spend a fortune on a hotel for the night, we opted for a 24 hour whirl-wind trip. It was that indeed!
So, we arrived Saturday morning around 7 am. We arrived in Times Square where we were greeted by police officers. They were preparing for the Revlon Walk for Woman that was being held there that morning. We settled down in a super cute diner that was decked out in 1950′s nostalgia. The “wait staff” was dressed up like they had just come from performing the musical Grease on Broadway. They even sang to us as we ate. They were obviously youngsters waiting to be discovered, for they put on an amazing performance!
After we were recharged, we hit Central Park. I think that is my new favorite spot in the world. I could literally set up a tent there and just be. Everything was in bloom. The wildlife was out. It seemed that everyone walking by had a dog with them. Then two or more dogs would start playing and chasing each other. It was scenes right out of a picture book. I really cannot express how absolutely beautiful the park was. Brad and I had visited the park before, but this was our first time seeing it in the springtime. Gorgeous! As we made our way through the park, we stopped to visit the next thing on my agenda-the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We simply did not have enough time to see everything. It is so huge, that to really get an appreciation for everything that is in it one must spend more than a few hours. Maybe even more than a day.
After the museum, we got a bite of one of NYC’s staples-pizza. Mmmm… it was good! Well, I guess anything would be when you have been walking for hours! Our next adventure was to street shop. There are many venders set up along the streets throughout the city. Most of which have very good deals on items that are the latest fashion. Yes, many are “knock-offs”, but I am not ashamed to say that I am not too good for a designer knock-off. I do draw the line on knock-off fragrances! After purchasing a few pashminas in time for Mother’s Day, our poor feet were all tuckered out! Okay, more like extremely worn out. We took the next available bus ride back home. Again, we slept on the way which at that point was much needed. This was a great trip and a great way to travel to and from two big cities. I recommend it so much that I think I will start planning the next one : )
