Let’s It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It…

We have gotten our first "Nor'easter".

This is apparently a winter storm with A LOT of snow! Brad and I both
left work in the early afternoon. It took him 4.0 hours to get home and
about 1.5 for me-I only work 6 miles from home! So, it has been falling
since about 12:20 this afternoon and is STILL going. It is supposed to
stop around midnight and then start back up Saturday night. Brad is out
shoveling the driveway as I type. We really are enjoying the winter
weather. It may sound funny, but how many people can say that they are
going to be having a white Christmas this year?

It is interesting to see how there is a winter weather culture here. On
my way home in the stop and go traffic, there were MANY people leaving
their jobs trying to get home. As one side of the road was backed-up,
the dedicated workers that take care of the roads were starting their
job. Some were driving two and three together down the road in order to
efficiently plow it. I need to mention that these were not government
plows, but the local guys working together to help with the roads on
their way to plow the parking lots for businesses that pay them for
that service.

As a teacher,  the winter weather brings with it a whole series of
events that take place as if they are a daily routine. I am learning
quickly to allow extra time for my kids to get their winter wear on and
off each day, and to make extra room in the closet for all of the
boots, snowcoats, mittens, scarves, etc. One would think that they are
taking a field trip to a ski resort each day they come in. I am
enjoying every bit of it. Most of all, their little faces when we look
out the four big windows of our old school house to see the drifting of
snowflakes onto the school yard.
