El Tour de Tucson

Deanna and I had a great time. We did the 81 mile ride on our tandem. Since we actually rode to the start, this was our longest ride together – ever. We started off pretty strong, but realized the lack of training was going to catch up with us somewhere around Catalina State Park.

The legs started to burn and the "seat area" was getting uncomfortable. We still cannot stand at the same time on our tandem – we need to work on that. We recharged at the state park Aid Station and then again once just before Silverbell. The last 11 miles seemed to take forever, but we picked it back up a bit with 2 miles to go. We survived and beat our goal of "2nd-to-last or better".

Once we got home we ate and sat in bed for a couple hours with the TV on. It was a challenge to walk around the house so we didn’t even try! I think we fell asleep before the sun went down, but I got back up just before 9 to watch the news. I had to see who won. After that we both slept without stirring at all, all night long. Nothing is better than a good deep sleep after a nice bike ride.

Sunday, we could both feel that we had a long ride Saturday and took it easy all day long. Deanna took another afternoon nap, while I played in the garage with some woodworking stuff.

Next year we hope to actually train and get ready for the ride. We will probably even step it up a bit and do the 109 mile ride.

Our International Chrisitian Cycling Club set up a booth at the expo. That was pretty fun and we met a lot of new people to join our ride list and maybe even the club.
