A trip to Portland – finishing with a day on the Coast

Deanna and I grabbed a rental car and took a road trip to
Portland.  After some time in the city we left to stay a night on
the coast.

The ride to Portland was on a clear sunny day.  We had a good
time checking out all the green stuff.  It is quite different than our desert landscape.

Portland is only about a three hour drive from Bremerton, so we seized
the opportunity to see the great city while we were in that part of the
country.

On the way, we stopped off at a visitors center that featured
information about Mount St. Helens. We wanted to drive off the beaten
path to see the volcano, but the road was closed.  Besides, it was so cloudy that there was not much
visibility. The visitors center actually had a live picture. From that,
we gathered that it would not have been worth the trip.

Portland was awesome! It was quite green with water and bridges. That is exciting stuff for us Tucsonans! In
Portland, we stopped at a city park and took a short
walk through a rose garden and a Holocaust memorial.  The rose
garden wasn't in bloom, but we did visit the Japanese Garden. It was
beautiful and very peaceful. The gardens were nice even though it was a
little chilly out and overcast.

After the gardens, we had a  late lunch in Beaverton (this is where one of the IBM sites is located) and
then headed to Seaside to check out the beach.  Our hotel room had
a very nice view and we watched the sunset from our window.  Before
the sun went down, we took a romantic walk down the beach. We looked for seashells and wrote in the sand.

We woke up the next day and drove up the coast.  Deanna wanted to see a
lighthouse so we went to Westport to snap a quick picture.  Unfortunatly, the
lighthouse is only open for tours on weekends so we just looked from afar.
We did go for a walk on the beach and found several sand dollars.

The
rest of the day, we just watched the greenery and the blue ocean from the
car.  There was light rain for a good part of the day, but cleared up once we got into Washington.

Overall,
the area was beautiful. It sure would take me some time to get used
to the fact that it rains every couple of days. I would have to invest in some rain gear if I lived there, so
I wouldn't feel like I was stuck in the house all the time.
