Gone Camping – Gardner Canyon

The weather was awesome this weekend so we decided to go for a little backpacking trip to Gardner Canyon. We stuffed our sleeping bags, a tent, snacks, dog food, and water in our packs and headed out.

There was a race there so we arrived a little late hoping to miss the crowd. We almost missed them, but caught the last lap of the pro race. We only saw a few guys and they passed us on the road. We also had a chance to use the 4wd on our Jeep. We drove few miles along FR92 and found a nice spot to park on the side.

After loading up our backs and convincing the dogs to go for a walk (yea right!) we started our way down the road. We walked about 1.5 miles and ran into a nice couple on some horses. The guy suggested a perfect little spot a few minutes up the road. We didn't find anyting better and stuck with the cowboy's suggestion.

We were several feet from a little stream and under some great pine trees. We started setting up and had a couple rain drops visit us. We had everthing set up and decided to have a little dinner. Once we started cooking, the rain began again. There wasn't much rain, but enough to make us put the fly on the tent. This was the first time we used our new tent and it was pretty cool. It set up nicely and kept us real comfortable. It was warm enough and had great air flow. This is the first real hiking tent we ever owned and the first time we took our own packs and tent on a trail.

The dogs had a lot of fun splashing in the stream. Is hard to get Baileyto get out and we just watched him splashed his little feet for hours. We hung our snacks in the tree and and headed off to the tent. It was snug, but our three person tent fits our little gang pretty well.

The night was chilly and the sound of the creek was very relaxing. Just before dawn I had to let Brandon under my sleeping bag to make sure he was warm enough. Of course, Bailey was already in Deanna's bag.

After the sun was up for a little while we woke up, packed up and headed out. We were home early and goofed off around the house all day.
